Australian government has now reduced the country’s PR i.e. the condition for permanent residence from 60 points to 65. This has created trouble for those Indian students who are studying in Australia on study visa with the dream of becoming a PR. Also, people thinking of settling in Australia have also suffered a major setback.

India ranks second among students going to Australia to study. The contribution of Indians to Australia’s international education market is about Rs 400 billion. According to Australian Education International (AEI) sources, last year about 40 thousand students took admission in Australian educational institutions. 47 percent of Indian students are pursuing advanced courses at Victoria University. More than 100 students are pursuing PhD and two-thirds are pursuing Master’s degree.

These students are less inclined towards professional courses like computer, engineering, courses in subjects like business and nursing, horticulture, agriculture are becoming popular. The degree fees in Australia are around 25 thousand dollars per year, which is more than 12 lakhs in Indian currency. The degree course is of three years, after which the student can take a work permit for two years. Work permit i.e. after completing 900 hours during the job itself, the candidate can apply for PR.

PR is given by the government by making a point system based on degree, English, age, experience, living in a backward area. Earlier, students who were working on work visa after completing their studies used to get PR by completing 60 marks, now the Australian government has increased the number by 5 marks, due to which it has become difficult to get PR. If PR is not received after the work visa expires, the students will have to return to India. At present there are 1.5 lakh Indian students who are there on study visa or work visa.

First student visa was tightened, now PR
From 2005 to 2009, students of Indian origin increasingly moved towards Australia. Many students who were weak in 12th pass studies took admission in the course there but did not complete it and tried to get PR with the help of fake documents. As a result the Australian government had to stop visas from 2009 to 2012. Student visa was started again in 2012, but study visa was given only to quality students and degree holders. Study visa for diploma was almost stopped, now PR has also been tightened.

Mandatory for PR:
IELTS 7 band in each subject, minimum graduate degree, age between 25 to 29 years and minimum 3 years experience in the same field of study.

ustralia PR, the first 60 marks were officially kept by the government but the file of those below 70 marks was not cleared. In such a situation, those with 60 marks were left hanging in the air. Now people over 65 will face a lot of trouble. There are a large number of Indian students doing degrees there, it is natural for them to face problems. Australia is already following suit.
